Interum Measures Agreement

What is Watershed Management?

Watershed Management is the planned use of drainage basins in accordance with predetermined objectives such as water consumption, fish and wildlife, ecological values, First Nations interests and culture such as food gathering and spiritual places. Watershed Management also includes forestry, fishing, and mining. Watershed management should seek to support all natural values and integrate them into a sustainable management plan.

What exactly is a watershed plan?

Watershed plans were developed in accordance with the recommendations of an independent scientific panel. Watershed plans identify the complete range of forest values and map areas that are reserved from forest harvesting activities due to their environmental and cultural values. Similarly watershed plans identify harvestable areas where forest management activities can take place in a way that does not compromise these values.
