Review Role
One of the Board's responsibilities is to review and make recommendations on resource and land use plans. When reviewing referrals, the Board, at the recommendation of either Party, will seek public input and consult with local communities.
The Board receives plans directly from BC agencies or ministries with the responsibility for the referred tenure or plans. The Board has 30 days to recommend acceptance, modifications to, or rejection of any plan referred to it. The findings and recommendations of the Board will be redirected back to the originating ministry or agency within the 30-day period. All decisions or recommendations of the Board are reached through consensus.
In order to help fulfill its review role, the Parties agree to provide the best available information to the Board. When agencies and ministries are able to provide the Board with the appropriate information to help it make informed decisions, the CRB has been able to forward its recommendations within 11 to 17 days.
If the Board's recommendations are not implemented to its satisfaction within 30 days, the Board shall report to the Parties and either Party may refer the matter to Provincial Cabinet. If Cabinet does not accept the Board's recommendation, the Central Region Resource Council, comprised of the Central Region Hereditary Chiefs and Ministers of British Columbia, shall meet to consider solutions and one of the Parties refers the matter to the Council. To date, the Board has not referred any of its recommendations to the Parties or to Cabinet.
